Crime Statistics

The Federal Bureau of Investigation via the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program collates index crime data for all counties in the state and publishes annual reports of their crime statistics. The latest report in 2017 shows that Wood County recorded 110 violent crimes including 2 murders, 40 rapes, 15 robberies, and 53 aggravated assaults. Property crime numbers include; 245 burglaries, 1268 larcenies, 45 motor vehicle thefts, and 6 arsons.

Criminal Records

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation(BCI) provides criminal background checks for all the counties in the state. It offers fingerprint-based background checks and also allows citizens to submit requests for criminal history records and also obtain copies of a previously completed background check. To obtain this record, electronically submit fingerprints to the BCI through card scan or the WebCheck office located at the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

The office only accepts visits on appointment and proof of identity is required. Book an appointment online or call (419) 354-9007 during normal business hours. For ease, download and complete the background check request form before presenting at the office. BCI check costs $32 and the FBI check costs $35 and payment is by cash only upon completion.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office runs this facility through its Justice Center Division. To reach this Division, call (419) 354-9137. The Sheriff’s Office publishes a regularly updated Jail Roster to help citizens find individuals incarcerated in this facility. Friends and family can deposit money (with applicable fees) to inmates in detention by calling (866) 345-1884, online or by making cash deposits at the kiosk located in the lobby of the jail. The highest trial court in Wood County is the Court of Common Pleas. How to Look Up Wood County Property Records

The Wood County Recorder's office makes available to the public an online application through which users can access documented property records. To obtain property records on the portal, requesters can several steps:

  • Agreeing to the Terms and Conditions redirects users to a listing page where they can provide answers to any of the displayed search criteria as follows to continue the search:

Marriage Records

Copies of marriage records can be obtained by contacting the Wood County Probate Court. Visit this Court open to the public during weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to request copies of these records for a fee of $2.00 per certified copy and $0.50 per page of each uncertified copy.
