What are Dayton Public Records?

Pursuant to the Ohio Open Records Law, Dayton public records mean records held by any public office, including, but are not confined to, state, county, city, village, township, and school district units. It also includes records relating to the provision of educational services by an alternative school in Ohio held by the nonprofit or for-profit agency running the alternative school in pursuance of Section 3313.533 of Ohio’s Revised Code.

Dayton public records do not include the following:

Dayton Crime Statistics

The Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services provides annual crime statistics of all cities and counties in Ohio. Dayton City crime statistics for 2017 shows a total number of 7,315 crimes reported, including 1,232 violent crimes and 6,083 property crimes. Violent crimes reported included 30 murders, 122 rapes, 393 robberies, and 687 aggravated assaults. The property crimes reported included 1,779 burglaries, 3,688 larcenies, 616 motor vehicle thefts, and 26 arsons.

These numbers when compared with the 2013 crime statistics, show a significant drop in crimes over five years. There was a decline in six out of eight major crimes. Murder. robbery, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson rates declined by 3%, 24%, 32%, 18%, 3%, and 80% respectively. At the same time, the rates of rape and aggravated assaults increased by 7% and 20% respectively.

Are Dayton Criminal Records Public?

Under Ohio law, Dayton criminal records are not public records. Access to criminal history and the authorization for the release of their information is restricted.
